RDP ActiveX Control won’t install

I have been supporting Windows Small Business Server for many years. One of SBS’s best selling points is the Remote Web Place ferature, this allows users to logon onto a internal hosted website and access there desktop PC or Remote Desktop Server via the webpage.

To allow this to work Microsoft uses an ActiveX control which needs to be installed the first time it’s used, this is presented as a yellow bar in IE9 and there seems to various causes with IE9 looping at the installation point, the bar just keeps reappearing even if the ActiveX control is installed.

This is what worked for me the last time I ran into the above problem

Select “Tools”, then “Internet options”.
Select the “Security” tab.
Select “Trusted Sites”.
Click on the “Sites” button.

Add your remote access web site to the list of trusted sites. You can add both http://domainname.com and https://domainname.com

Microsoft Security Essentials in my opinion is one the best anti virus products to be released in years. Version 2.0 is currently in beta and Microsoft have now released a offline version which can be booted from USB, CD/DVD.

Does this bug you?

In Windows 7, you can turn it of by hitting Alt, Select Tools menu > Folder options……

Ensure “Don’t show hidden files folder or drives” is selected and ensured “Hide empty drives in the Computer folder” is ticked. The empty drives disappear…..

Hello World

I have been away on my Holidays of late…. hence why it’s been quiet on here. So here’s a brief summary of things I’m playing around with and an update.

I’m looking in to Android development. I’ve not really bothered with Linux all that much. So I expect that I’ll end up about my experiences with Android in the coming months.

I also want to look at Windows Phone 7 Development and maybe even launch an app. Will have to see

In August, I was mentioning a big change coming for me and if you have looked at my About page then you will already know. We sold our company Total ICT Limited. Which took a few weeks to get things sorted.

This move will hopefully improve things for me personally going forward.

Time flies

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been 10 days since I last blogged. It’s a good job that I didn’t join in with BEDA (Blog Everyday in August).

Anyhow, I still have lots of stuff going on and I have some bad news. A family member has passed away. She was only 46. I lost my Mum 8 Years ago and other friends and family (didn’t want to list them all as it’s all ready a tough post). This really brings home, the question what’s it’s all about. In reality we don’t know. The important thing is to figure out what makes you happy and do it.

After reflecting over the last week thinking about my life, I’m good, I feel like I’m happy overall, I’m really glad to say. I think one area I need to work on is my motivation for doing things around the house and work, rather than just thinking about doing stuff I need to start doing stuff.

I just wanted to put another post up as I’m aware that I’ve been quite of late.
